The best time to visit Yubeng is from late April to October when the weather is milder, and the trails are more accessible. Avoid visiting during the rainy season (July and August) due to potential landslides and slippery trails.

2. Location of Yubeng
Yubeng is located in the Deqin County of the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan, China. It is situated at the foot of the Meili Snow Mountain range.

4. How to get to Yubeng
To reach Yubeng:
1)Lijiang/Shangri-La→Feilai Temple
Take a bus, shared car, or hire a private car from Lijiang or Shangri-La to Feilai Temple.
The journey from Shangri-La to Feilai Temple takes approximately 5-6 hours by car.
2)Feilai Temple→Ninong
Take a bus to Ninong. The ride takes about 1 hour and costs 20 RMB.
3)Ninong→Yubeng
The trek from Ninong to Yubeng takes about 4-6 hours. Alternatively, you can take an SUV to the village, which costs 200 RMB to Upper Yubeng and 260 RMB to Lower Yubeng.

The way to get around Yubeng is by foot or on horseback, Now, you can also take an SUV into Yubeng. The trails are well-marked, and local guides and horses are available for hire.
6.Ticket for Yubeng
After arrive at Xidang Village, this is the entrance to Yubeng, Tickets is 55RMB per person.
7.The 6-Day Yubeng Hiking Itinerary
Day 1: Lijiang/Shangri-la → Feilai Temple
-Transportation: Depart from Lijiang/Shangri-la, finally arriving at Feilai Temple.
- Take a bus, shared car, or hire a private car directly from Lijiang to Feilai Temple. The journey takes about 7 hours.
- Departing from Shangri-La Bus Station, with tickets costing 68 RMB, and the trip takes approximately 4 hours.
-Introduction: Feilai Temple is one of the best places to view and photograph the “Sunshine on Meili Snow Mountain” phenomenon. From the Feilai Temple viewing platform, you can enjoy close-up views of the Meili Snow Mountain.

Day 2:Arrive in Yubeng
- Starting Point: Ninong Village (change to Ninong route not Xidang direction as Xidang road is being repaired)
- Destination: Yubeng Village
- Distance: 15 km
- Elevation: 1,900m (Ninong Village) to 3,400m (Upper Yubeng)
- Duration: 5-7 hours
- Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
- Trail Conditions: The trail from Ninong Village to Yubeng is more challenging compared to the Xidang route. The initial part of the trail follows the Mekong River, offering stunning views but with some steep ascents and exposed paths. The hike involves crossing rocky terrain, dense forests, and streams. It is recommended to be well-prepared for this more strenuous hike. Given the difficulty, some trekkers may choose to take an SUV into Yubeng(200RMB), though this may not be as common on the Ninong route. Hiking is recommended for those seeking a full immersive experience.
- Supplies: There are no supply points along the trail, so it is essential to carry sufficient water and snacks. Accommodations and meals are available in Yubeng.

Day 3: Yubeng to Glacier Lake
- Starting Point: Yubeng Upper Village
- Destination: Glacier Lake
- Introduction:Glacier Lake, at an elevation of 3,900 meters, is considered the “Holy Lake” of Kawagebo (Meili Snow Mountain). The lake is formed from glacial meltwater, and its crystal-clear blue waters resemble jade, making it both sacred and serene.
- Distance: 14 km round trip
- Elevation Gain: 500m
- Duration: 6-8hours
- Difficulty: Challenging
- Trail Conditions: The trail starts with a gradual ascent through alpine meadows and forests, followed by a steeper climb as you approach the lake. The final stretch is more challenging, with rocky terrain and narrow paths. Proper hiking shoes are essential. Be prepared for altitude sickness; consider carrying altitude sickness medication.

- Accommodation: Return to Lower Yubeng.
Day 4: Yubeng to Yubeng Waterfall
– Starting Point: Yubeng Lower Village
– Destination: Yubeng Waterfall
– Introduction: Yubeng Waterfall is a significant pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhists, who believe that the waterfall’s water can cleanse one’s sins. The trail to the waterfall is scenic, passing through forests and meadows.
– Distance: 13km round trip
– Elevation gain: 500m
– Duration: 4-6 hours
– Difficulty: Moderate
– Trail Conditions: The trail starts from Lower Yubeng and follows the river, passing through dense forests. The final ascent to the waterfall is steep and can be slippery after rain. Dress in layers as the weather can change rapidly.

Day 5: Yubeng to Lake of God

Day 6: Yubeng → Ninong Village → Departure
